Casual boxing fans made it very clear this weekend that they are no longer willing to spend an exorbitant amount of money to see brilliant (and boring) technical boxing — viewers want brutal slugfests that end with a knockout. Manny Pacquiao may have been able to challenge Mayweather and put on a show worth watching five years ago, but his performance Saturday was a massive disappointment.

Mayweather said after the bout that he plans to fight once more in September before retiring from the sport. British boxer Amir Khan would be leading candidate to challenge Mayweather, but Mayweather seems intent on fighting in September, and Khan is unwilling to fight in the fall due to Ramadan. Mayweather could also cash in on a rematch with Pacquiao (which no one should have to watch), or take on a fighter he’s already beaten like Miguel Cotto or Canelo Alvarez.
